Tonight we play at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village! Last night, after rehearsal, the band and I went down to Battery Park and watched James Brown in concert! Our friend, Jeff Watkins, was up there grooving with the Emperor of Soul! He's the sax player I mentioned earlier in this journal. It was awesome! I'm almost ready for tonight's show. The sky is rumbling thunder...

It's rainy outside here in Gotham. I just got over a cold. I really like the new songs I've written since I've been here. One is called, "Arizona" and it's about my time last year in da, da, daaaaa....Arizona! And the other one is about missing northern California and making the transition into living in NYC. I'm not sure of that one's title yet, perhaps it's, "Manhattan Blues" but, it's not really a blues song.
Anyone else out there feel how tight the money is? I just read something in a magazine that said we're in a worse depression than back in the 1930's but no one's saying anything about it. That's nice, huh? I just keep enjoying my experience of being here and living my dream. I'm working on having absolutely NO regrets in this life. There's a joke that goes, "A really poor woman didn't understand her station in life and prayed to God everyday to help her. Her prayer was, 'God, please help me win the lottery.' She did this for years and years and one day, God answered her and said, ' I've been trying to help you win the lottery for ten years, help me out and buy a ticket."
I think this is a really funny joke and a good lesson. It's really a combination of asking the higher powers to help us and guide us and also taking action in our lives that helps us. "God helps those who help themselves", I think that's what that means. On that note, it's time for me to do both! Keep your spirits nourished!

I played in the subway station today at 42nd street!!! Yeah! It was fun, too! Do you know how you know if you're doing the right thing? You GET energy from doing it! I feel so full of energy right now and this is BEFORE coffee! Now I'm going to drink some coffee!!! Watch out New York! A far cry from the reality of tonight's "American Idol" show! Life is so funny. It's pretty cool when I play music, even in the subway~ especially there because people are doing their "guarded" thing and because I'm doing my thing, which is the opposite of guarded, I can smile at these people and make contact and because I'm there singing with my guitar, they let down their guards and smile at me! Now that is a new New York experience for me.

Boy have I been busy! I love it! Today is Friday, May 16th, last Sunday night I went to The Bitter End in Greenwich Village for the jam and played with my drummer, Dave Dawson and my bassist, Dean Zucchero and some other musicians. Then I went next door with Dean and guitarist, Chris Carter and we got to play with the musicians there for about five songs. Totally unexpected and really fun. One song into another... I love music. Monday night I went to the jam at Le Bar Bat and played with Dean and guitarist/jam leader, Bobby Nathan and some other fine players including fiddler, Rick Shields and harmonica player, Mad Dog! Tuesday night, I went to the weekly jam at Hog's and Heifer's on the upper east side and closed out the night. Again, Dean played bass, Rick Shields played fiddle, and Big Ed, the jam leader, played slide guitar. It is so amazing to be able to play music every night of the week if I so desire! Yeehaw!!! Wednesday evening, my boyfriend and I went to my first Yankee's game in the Bronx! We had hot dogs and big beers! Whoo! Thursday afternoon, my band and I rehearsed down near Ground Zero. We were down the hall from okay, I don't know how to spell her name but, bassist M'chelle N'gdcello? You know who I'm talking about! I heard her with her band and they sounded real good! They were rehearsing for a show at I think, Irving Plaza. Well, magic IS definitely happening! I've been here for 7 months!!! I love it even more! Rock on people!!!

Today, I went to an outdoor free concert with Jewel! She is awesome! That was the first time I've ever seen her play. She is amazing. I think I read that she's been performing since she was like, five! Her family used to do a show and she was on stage and on tour a lot at a really young age... Pretty cool. One more inspirational moment here in the Big Apple! Did I mention that I love it here? We have some shows coming up at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village and an outdoor concert in the Dag Hammarkjold Plaza on 47th street. Check the calendar for the dates and times. At this point in my life, I honestly feel like I'm really in the perfect place at the perfect time and I do know the difference, believe me. Some amazing things are happening here, I call it magic. Magic is the persons will and emotions making a noticeable physical change in manifest reality that even an onlooker can see. Yep, magic is happening! Am I way out there? Good! Burning Man is coming!

And Stacey Mozina called in from my other favorite part of the country, Mt.Shasta, California!!! I love this job! I hope you got to hear it! Go to the link below and see if Maurice recorded tonight's show! I hope so because it was my very first radio interview in N.Y.C.!!! Rock on y'all! If it's not recorded, it's like a friend of mine said, some of the best moments aren't ever recorded...

Hey Everybody!!! I am so excited! Tonight, my song, "Baby Blue" off of my Dragon's Lair c.d., got played on 90.3 FM, "The Love Zone"~ New York City!!! I met the D.J. at B.B. King's when we played there last Wednesday night. His name is Maurice Watts and you can hear his show live over the internet from anywhere! His site is
http://www.mauricewatts.com . You have to download Real Audio but then you're tuned in! He played Baby Blue! Whoo hoo!!! That was its debut in NYC! I called Gregg Tilles, my guitarist and told him it was going to air and he got it on the internet right as it was going on. Maurice had me call the station when it went on the air and had me talk live on the airwaves! I gave a big hello to "Guitarist, Gregg Tilles!" Of course, Gregg heard it! Pretty frickin' cool, eh? Here comes my sermon...... Follow your dreams!!! They can come true! You can tell when you're in the right place at the right time~ in your right flow when, things start happening magically and you're not pushing or pulling and "trying" to make them happen. I'm so happy!!! Thank you Maurice Watts!

Last night, the band and I played at B.B. King's club on 42nd street, NYC, at the Lucille's stage for a party for Talent In Motion magazine! We played two originals, "Baby Blue" and, "Left with the Queen", and one cover tune, "Baby, I love you". We had fun. It felt strange and right to walk out of the venue at midnight and have my subconcious think it was daytime because it's 42nd street and completely lit up! Yes, things are definately going well for me here in Gotham. For those of you who know the town of Sebastopol, today I would like to hang out at Hardcore Coffee. If you know Sebastopol, you know what I'm talking about. It's a town in northern California, right off of hwy.101 and the coffee shop I'm refering to does not mess around. That's all for now!
Peace and prosperity,
Jessica Star

It's beautiful and sunny here in Manhattan, spring has finally arrived! The blossoms are blooming and people are shedding their winter wear and showing skin! Tonight, I'll go to a jam at Hog's and Heffer's on the upper west side. My band will be there and if all goes well, we'll play a few songs together. Next week we'll be playing at B.B. King's club at a party for "Talent In Motion" magazine. I'll be featured in that magazine for their summer issue. This wednesday is Passover and I'll be celebrating it for the first time. I'm thinking about Burning Man more and more every day (it's the last week of August). My sister just headed out on her own on a road trip across the United States, going through New Mexico and Texas. Ah, the gypsy in me yearns for a good road trip but, being here in New York, there's so much to see from all cultures that, it's kind of like visiting a bunch of different places! I got to go romping through the woods of northern New Jersey this weekend... I found my first feather since I've been here on the east coast. Today is my 6 month anniversary of being here in New York! All is well here. I send my love and good wishes to everyone!

It's a snow storm here in Manhattan today! Yesterday was gorgeous and sunny and today, snow! Unbelievable! Well, last night I went to The Bitter End in Greenwich Village for their jam night. Dave and Dean, my drummer and bassist, were down there and we played,"Baby Blue" and, "Baby, I love you" with a lead guitarist from Italy, an amplified female violinist, and a conga drummer! No one believed me about the prediction for snow! It's ridiculous out! I attended the "New York Independant Music and Film Festival" last week at Madison Square Garden. It was a good networking event. I saw people I'd met at the "Global Entertainment and Media Summit" that I went to last month including, Scooter Scudieri who is very cool and is taking the "independant" music business to an entirely new level! No label, no manager, and no agent! He does it all through the internet and connections he makes. Jewel's mom, Lenedra Carol, who is also her manager, saw Scooter play at last years Summit, and asked him to open for Jewel's tour! So, being a smart guy, he did! I love meeting people who inspire me to keep on my path and mission! You can check him out at his website
http://www.firstrockstar.com .
On the 23rd of April, my band and I will be playing at B.B. King's on 42nd street at a party for "Talent" magazine. I'm still independant and working it! Rock on people and remember to party! Send your positive vibrations out into the world to help balance all the craziness that's going on!!! Live your dreams! Love everyone!!!

Yesterday was my 33rd birthday! I had a fantastic day! Started with sleeping in late, then breakfast with my honey at an outside seating cafe' up here on the upper west side on a gorgeous day. Cute dogs and their owners passed by on the sidewalk as we enjoyed coffee! Last night, we had a birthday party/gig at Le Bar Bat with my band and a bunch of friends! It really was fun. There was a chocolate birthday cake and a birthday shot of Johnny Walker black label whiskey! "Get it while you can" was one of our added songs to the set list and also my motto as I looked around at my friends, band, the beautiful venue and the feeling of fun and excitement! What can I say? This is an amazing time for me. It hasn't always been this good and I am appreciating the glory of the moment. I give thanks and praises to God and Goddess who are the creators and sustainers (not to mention, destroyers) of all of this amazing maya (illusion of reality-life)... It's amazing when you feel "in on the joke"or,"plan".
