Entry #99

Yesterday I spent burning cds for my band members, old and new, and making cd labels! Then I went to do my duty at Downtime, a live music venue on 30th and 8th. I take money at the door for The Off Wall Street Jam shows! It’s a fun little job! I feel like the early Bill Graham! I read his autobiography~ he had these extremely popular shows at his venues in the late 60’s and would walk down the line of hippies and sailors waiting to get in just taking the money and putting it in his pocket!   Tonight we’re going (along with a bunch of other Burners~ see http://www.burningman.com for an understanding of what a “Burner” is) to see a film called,” Confessions of a Burning Man” down at the Angelika. Alright, that’s my report! I hope you all are fairing well and getting much entertainment out of people and yourselves and life!   Jessica Star!

Entry #98

Spring is starting to show her lovely face here but it’s still freezing! I can feel the wheels of Burning Man starting to roll… I’ve been reforming my band, working in new musicians and bringing in new music to the group. My fiddling is getting better! It is so much fun! You know, I love this city. I do! Sometimes I don’t but, yesterday as I was walking back from yoga class, I really appreciated all the diversity and all the different people food, and experiences you can’t get all in one place anywhere else! It’s still amazing to me that I live here finally after literally dreaming about NYC for two years (at night while sleeping) and thinking of living here since I was thirteen! I actually live here now and it’s amazing to me. As far as I’m concerned, that is a dream come true!   Valentine’s Day was a blast! My honey took me to see my first Broadway musical, Beauty and the Beast! It was great! They were singing and dancing and I was laughing and clapping! I used to do a lot of musicals in my teens so, it struck a chord! Then, we went to Brooklyn and to a party in Dumbo at the Lunatarium where there were three rooms in a where house that had D.J.s and dancing, lights, people, and fun!   So, I’m starting to book shows and I’m excited about my band! I did some voice work yesterday at my friend’s studio, Unique Recording, down on 47th and 7th. It was for voice recognition systems for cars. They needed a bunch of different voices saying addresses and locations like,” North road 57, Massachusetts” and so forth so that the digital car system can understand many different voices asking for directions. It was tedious but I liked it because it was voice work! Alright kiddies, rock on with your selves and go get ‘em!   Jessica Star
