Entry #104

This weekend was my birthday party and it rocked!!! We went to a cool lounge called Guernica~ in the East Village and drank, danced, and ate delicious chocolate birthday cake!!! The music at the club was fantastic! Hip-hop and Reggae!!! We made our way downstairs to the dance floor and let loose! Later we walked to a nearby bar and saw a friend of mine from back in my Portland, Oregon days! She is one of the bartenders there and also happens to be Miss Rheingold!   Now Im booking gigs, rehearsing with my band and getting ready to play some shows here in the city; The Orange Bear on Saturday, April 17th and the next Saturday, the 24th down in the East Village at The C Note!   It is finally springtime and it feels so good!       Jessica

Tonight we played in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn at Dom Kulturi... Cool club and groovy people. We played a lot of cover tunes and some of my originals such as, Baby Blue and, The Ocean. You can read the entry before this one to see who was in the band tonight. They did a great job and we had fun! I want to say a public hello to Isaiah Vanderberg (I might have misspelled his name, sorry!) who is a young man from Sebastopol, California and someone who has come to many of my live shows out there. I just found out hes been in Iraq and hes coming home soon!!! You are a brave man, Isaiah and it really touches my heart that you thought of me while you were out there, so far from home. That, right there, is why I play music. Through music we met and stay connected& Thank you. Peace, Jessica Star

Entry #101

I have two gigs this weekend. Tomorrow night I play in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn at Dom Kulturi, a Russian club and restaurant with Roast Beef Joe on keyboard, Jared Booty on lead guitar, sax, and flute, and Dave Dawson on the drums. Its our first time playing as a band with Roast Beef Joe. It will be very cool. Last time I played at Dom Kulturi, I played with Bobby Nathans band. Sunday, my friends are getting married at 11a.m. and then Ill be singing at their reception with a jazz band and a few other singers and musicians. Jared will be on that gig with me too.  Today I bought a direct box for my guitar. If you dont know what that is, its a small electronic box that I plug my guitar cord into and another cord goes from the box to the main sound board to amplify my guitar. It saves me lugging my amp out to Brooklyn on the subway! I was in Mannys Music today down on 48th and Broadway and I got a lesson in the newest home recording equiptment! Whew! What you can do these days!!!     Rock on!     Jessica Star

Entry #100

Today is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Spring!!! I couldn't stay inside today! We have a good flea market on 77th and Columbus and I went there and SCORED! Then just walked around. It's trippy how when you walk through the crowds of people here, they just part as you go through, it's kind of like water. Tonight I rehearse with a new keyboard player and prepare for gigs starting next weekend! Oh, if you want to send me a message, make sure you put your own email address in the box so I can get back to you.   Rock on! Jessica Star
