Entry #122

Hi yall! I just watched John Kerrys speech for his acceptance of the Democratic nomination for the Presidency! He is awesome!!! Yep, Im voting for John Kerry and John Edwards. If you look into the heart of someone who wants to be a leader, you can tell where theyre coming from. I think that is crucial in a leader. If a leader is coming from a place of service to others and helping the greater good, using their hearts in their decision making, that is the key. I felt that Clinton used his heart as well as his brain. On the other hand, you can feel it when someone is lying. You can tell when someone is using words to manipulate and get the best for only themselves while stealing from everyone else with no regard to the welfare of the future which is what Bush has done every time Ive heard him talk. I cant wait until Kerry is President! He will turn this Nation around and help bring peace and respect back to our country. Michael Moore is going to be filming the voting process in Florida!!! I love him! Ha! Make sure they dont finagle the voting process again! The key here is that once Kerry is elected, we who care about our country and the world in large cant go back to being complacent. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. You cant give the government and the President all of the power ever again. We as citizens HAVE to play our fair share of the role in government. Even if the only thing each of us does is making sure were registered to vote and then go and vote with your heart and mind. It sucks, yes, we dont want to focus on that boring stuff but when we fall asleep at the wheel, accidents happen and people who dont have our best interest are left holding the wheel and make decisions that dont have our best interests in mind. I never wanted to have anything to do with politics but these last four years have been so devastating for the majority of Americans that I have to pay attention. I have to be involved or else Im part of the problem.     Rock on Old Glory!!!   Jessica Star (Stars and Stripes!)

Entry #121

It is Saturday late afternoon, the day after our CBs 313 Gallery show. It was a fun night! I really enjoyed listening to all of the different bands that we were on the bill with. Sara Wendt was awesome as were all the other bands. I am tired today. I have not done very much at all except pad around the house and hang out in our awesome backyard. Oh, it is so nice to have a backyard. I never thought I would appreciate having a little backyard so much. When you live in NYC and you do not have much nature around you for a year and a half (after living near the ocean for two years in Northern California), you crave a little space. What is really nice is that it is a private backyard that no one else goes into (except the neighborhood squirrel).   See, you can tell I am tired because I just went on and on about our backyard! Ah yes, MUSIC! We played three shows this week and last night was the third. We had a really good set and got a cd recording off of the sound board that I have yet to hear. It was raining and muggy all day yesterday right on in to the night. The subway was gross. There is no moving air down there and when it is muggy and hot, it is way worse down there. I was all dressed, make-upped and ready to go to the show and I rushed down to the subway and was hit by the dripping wet muggy heat~ off came my make up, my coat, my hat, my choker necklace, and my guitar. Whoa, I guess the key is that when the weather is like that and you have to go into the subway, do not over heat yourself before you get there or else! One should walk slowly and drink a nice iced beverage...     Jessica Star!

Entry #120

Last night at 11:20 or so we played over at Two Boots Pizzaria in the East Village for the kick-off of my friends, oh how do I say this? (Its early in the morning before coffee) My friends are driving their school bus, which theyve painted to look like an American Eagle, across the country signing up people to vote! Some of them are Burning Man people, some not. So, last night we played at the spot that was their last stop on what was an all night voyage through the city of New York, stopping at different locations in a kick-off party type of deal. Okay, Im drinking my first cup of joe, let me remove one hand from this fair keyboard while I take a tasty sip& Just a moment& Delicious!    We played for an hour and a half last night. We play again this afternoon for an hour and a half over near the U.N. for a lunch time concert. It was fun last night. Im a little tired but I love to play so Im into it. Thats about all I have for you this morning. Oh, tomorrow night were playing at the legendary CBs 313 Gallery! Were part of a line-up that includes six more bands and an art reception.   Fair thee well,   Jessica early in the morning

Entry #119

We just played at The Bitter End tonight and it was a rockin show! We had Kathy on harmony vocals, Jared ripping it up on his electric guitar, flute, and green sax, and Brent Overcash laying it down on bass. Guido took some nice solos on the keyboard and played a mean didgeridoo sound on Firewalk and Grateful Day! Dave was hitting hard and steady on the drums keeping us all in line. I had a great time up there singing, dancing, and playing my guitar! We had such a nice crowd. Thank you to all of you live show goers! Its a funny phenomenon; those folks who leave their apartments and houses and make their way to our show time and again. Theres something happening here, what it is aint exactly clear but there are glimpses through light when you see into the potential reality. Dreams and hope for fun ahead are what I live for. New York rocks, did you ever wonder?   ~Jessica Star~

Entry #118

We auditioned for Music Under New York this afternoon! It was the annual audition for talent to play gigs in the subways. There were about 25 judges seated in a half circle and the acts set up in front of them. It was really fun! We had five minutes total from the time we set up to the end of our songs. We set up on the side of the stage with our battery powered amps (you had to set up just how you would for playing in the subway and there's no power outlets to use. It was three of us; Dave, 'cash, and I and we played a shortened version of Firewalk and Baby Blue with a really quick segue between the two songs (a poor man's segue). It was exhilarating.  Tonight we went to see Wicked! It was really good. I really liked the costumes. At Burning Man there was an Emerald City and I thought of that while I watched them in the play tonight. They had really cool boots. I think they must have had a costumer do all the shoes that makes sense. Yep, the Wicked Witch was very cool and the star of the show. Things are rockin' and I feel like everything's speeding up for me. I felt a little more of Sonoma county dissolve out of my space yesterday. It was replaced by New York. Alright kids, I bid you adui     Jessica
