Entry #180

Hi! I just wanted to share some inspiration! Check out http://www.woodlandmusic.net and http://www.blackmoresnight.com . I'm finding both of these bands to be incredibly fun and inspiring! Happy Halloween! I'll be dressed as a fairy.. Go figure. If I could get away with dressing that way all the time I probably would. When I'm at Burning Man I do! Jessica

Hi ho people! All is well here. This past Tuesday I filmed a video of me singing some lounge music with a great pianist named Seiko. I might add the video to this site at some point because I think it will come out really nice. I sang some of the songs that I grew up singing. I did New York State of Mind, Georgia, Summertime, On a Clear Day, and Cry Me a River. New York State of Mind brought back the funny memory of when I was in high school in Vancouver, Washington and I was in choir class. I did a solo for the class and I sang N.Y. State of Mind acapella. I remember the funny looks on people's faces. I interpreted the looks as," What planet did she come from?" " That was not the assignment!" I think we were supposed to pick a song out of the choir book or something. Ah, just like me, I did what I wanted to. I think I knew even back then that my life path would lead me to NYC to sing and follow my dream. Then there was that time in drama class where we were supposed to prepare a monologue and perform it for the class in the auditorium.. I was a very serious ballet student at that time and we were learning the corps de ballet parts of Swan Lake.. Well, I borrowed a white tutu costume from the school and performed the swan dance for my drama class. Once again," What planet is she from??" " That WASN'T the assignment!" But it's what I wanted to do and for me, it was wayyy more fun than the assignment! Then there was that guidance counselor back in the 9th grade; I cut our meeting short when I told her I had no desire to go to college because I was going to be a famous entertainer. I don't think I specified "singer" but I might have. I really wanted to be a dancer back then though. I played in the subway twice last week, only for a half hour each time due to my wrist still healing from strain. Bodies~ gotta have 'em. It's definitely getting spooky around here in Brooklyn. Halloween is almost upon us. I really want to march in the Halloween parade this year. It's really fun! I might partake in the N'Awlins funeral with the Hungry March Band! They're a bunch of N.Y. Burners that really are a marching band. Everyone's dressing in back with ghoulish white face make-up and red adornments. I think it will be fun. I adore Halloween. Burning Man and Halloween are my favorite holidays! For those of you who feel sad; me too. Life's about learning and growth is sometimes painful. If you feel sorry for yourself, it's probably time to look around you and appreciate what you do have; also to appreciate yourself more. Keep on swimming! Jessica

Just a short message today, I'm pretty tired. Last night I played in the "Fran and Jamie Show" put on by my friend Fran. She had two actresses, herself doing comedic things that Fran does (multi-talented) and myself singing my songs and playing guitar as a solo act. Fran came on with me towards the end and played harmonica to Me and Bobby McGee and my tune Sweet Candy. It was a really fun night. Mo Pitkins, where we played, was a nice space. It has two levels with lots of wood. The theater itself holds about 100 people and is just a nice intimate setting. There's even a backstage dressing room WITH a bathroom; and it was clean! May sound funny but, a dressing room and a clean bathroom are indeed pleasant surprises as far as club gigs go. That's it! Jessica

Hi ho party peeps! We went to Northern Virginia this weekend to visit some friends and it was really fun! Our friends took us to Luray Caverns where we explored underground and took many pictures! Check out http://www.luraycaverns.com . We also partied in old town Alexandria and ate mucho seafood and drank large fishbowls full of beer at a place called the Fish Market. The best part was afterwards River Dancing with the girls! Hey girls, are you reading this?! What fun. I love it when you meet people for the first time and you just hit it off. It's very important to get out of New York CityChina Town express from NYC to Washington D.C. I love not driving; especially with the stupid gas prices these days. I urge you to check into grease cars. You know, it's a diesel engine that is converted to run on vegetable oil a.k.a. French fry grease. This coming Wednesday I'm performing at my friend Fran's show at Mo Pitkin's http://www.mopitkins.com from 7:30 to about 9:30! You all rock, thanks for reading my online blog! Check out the store page on this website and go to the bottom; it's my new online merchandise shop at Cafe' Press! ~Jessica~
