*Inspired by my garden in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, NY
I was gardening one day and all of this happened!
I went inside to write a song in my studio because the images
of these flowers were really dancing in my mind!
You should have seen this garden…

Lyrics

In my Brooklyn garden
At the beginning of autumn
One day I found them
And I didn’t know what they were
So I dug them out of the pathway
And I moved them back in the border
Flanked by fuchsia amaranth
I’m trying to make some kind of order with
Wild purple irises dancing in my mind
Pushing their way out of the ground
Yeah, they are the wild kind
With tongues lolling out orange and yellow
Some are pushing up through the grass
Some got pounded by the rain and are laying low
With conditions like this you know they’re growing fast
They are wild purple irises dancing in my mind
Pushing their way out of the ground
Yeah, they are the wild kind
I don’t know how long they’ll last
You know you never do
I took a picture to save the memory
So I can send it on to you
They are wild purple irises dancing in my mind
Pushing their way out of the ground
Yeah, they are the wild kind
They are wild Purple Irises dancing so divine
Pushing their way out of the ground
They are the wild kind
