The inspiration for this song was that I was indeed, up early (for me, it was probably 9am) and on my way to pay a bill when a single browning leaf fell to the sidewalk in front of me, letting me know it was fall.

Jessica Star- lead vocal, rhythm guitar
Joseph Blackfeather- bass
Mark Abbott- drums, percussion
Winter- electric guitar
Kymberly Jackson- flute

Lyrics

I recall the first day of fall
Walking to pay my bill in Brooklyn
The wind was blowing gently from the north
Coming to us from the isle of Manhattan
And the leaves came down
Yellow, red, and brown
And without a sound it turned to fall
I recall the first day of fall
It was the fourteenth of September
Right before the presidential election
Summer’s fading like a cooling ember
And the leaves came down
Yellow, red, and brown
And without a sound it turned to fall
Soon it’s time to don your winter coat
Take out your hat and gloves
Put away your sandals and pull on your boots
But the warmest winter wear is love
I recall the first day of fall
For me, it was an early morning
Focused on the tasks up ahead
I witnessed summer’s end giving warning
As the leaves came down
Yellow, red, and brown
Silent to the ground on the first day of fall
